The 1st Annual Bolt for the Heart – “Turkey Trot” is a 3.33 Mile Run/Walk to benefit Heart Reach Carmel for the placement of life saving AEDs (automated external defibrillators) in Central Indiana in an effort to save people who experience sudden cardiac arrest. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, killing roughly one million Americans every year. Portable AEDs are used to restart someone’s heart in the event of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).

Each year sudden cardiac arrest kills 335,000 people of all ages and fitness levels without warning. Ninety five percent of those who suffer from SCA die because CPR and defibrillation usually occur too late or not at all.

Code Blue applauds the efforts of Heart Reach Carmel and would like to support the efforts by providing approximately twenty DFB-1 units along the Carmel portion of the Monon Trail. These units include controlled access and climate- conditioned housing that provides the ideal storage location for AEDs right on the trail.
